Question by dude_plopez: how much do car auctions sell their cars?
if you are familiar with gilroy charity auto auctions held every 2 weeks, could you tell me how much cars are usually sold for? im looking to buy a honda or a toyota 1995 and up and was wondering how much a car like that would go for?

You pay whatever you bid for cars at these auctions. That means you need to know how much the cars are worth and can keep your emotions in check so that you do not overbid. Also keep in mind that you cannot drive the cars. Here’s an article that might help:

Question by Clintizzle: How cheap do used cars sell at public car auctions?
I want a newer car for 2000-2007 truck or sedan or maybe even suv. Is this the cheapest way to get a car, what are the disadvantages and advantages of this and how cheap can you get a car! Also what kind of cars do you see there nice ones or junk?

I don’t know about prices, but I do know that sometimes you can get a car that has been in an accident before, and they have tried to fix it. It might look like the car is intact but it may have suspension damage or other type of damage that you can’t see or can’t tell until you drive off on the freeway. This is what happened to me. I bought a used car at a used dealership, 08 Corolla. I did get a good deal on it but the car had damage from a prior accident that they didn’t tell me about. The dealership bought it at an auction and then sold it to me. Luckily they completely fixed it for me because I let them know the problem right away and the people I dealt with were very good at making me happy. They understood how serious my problem was since it pertained to the suspension. I guess they didn’t want to be sued, since I paid cash for the car, I know, my BIG mistake. But it worked out for me.

Question by LD: Does any one know of any banks in Seattle that sell repo cars?
I already checked most of the credit unions…but their car auction lists are very limited. Has any one here bought a car from a particular bank auction here in Seattle, WA?

Question by LebDan: How can I find out about bank repo cars for sale?
I am low on cash (after going through graduate school) and I am looking to my a decent car. I bought a car at a local auction once and was very successful! So I just thought of bank repo cars. Can you help me or point me a direction where I could find out some more about bank repo cars?

You can contact your local bank to see if they have any inventory. Most banks send their cars directly to dealer auctions so they don’t keep them around long.

Public auctions are always high risk for finding a reliable car but you have to give up something to get a great price.

Before I’d go the auction route I’d obsessively search Craigslist for bargains from private sellers.
